Our Story

Our Story

Our small family farm in northern Saskatchewan has roots in local Mennonite heritage. We grew large veggie gardens, raised a wide variety of farm animals and, as is often the case, we moved away as we grew older.

Our parents are both veterinarians and our dad, who is also a cattle nutritionist, consults for beef and dairy farms across Canada. His expertise is helping farmers move to more holistic farming practices, encouraging raising cattle without the use of drugs, hormones and chemicals. As we learned about holistic farming practices, we were drawn back to the land, back to our roots.

In 2019, we began work to rebuild our farm, understanding that using intensive grazing practices, low stress handling techniques and other low input and self-renewing practices can help heal the soil. We approach our farm landscape as interdependent ecosystems out of which the well being of all is reflected in the health and functionality of the whole. Since starting on this path, we have seen the land steadily improve. We focus on raising happy, healthy beef.

Our Why

Both our families have had significant health challenges in the last six years. While looking for answers, we discovered the interrelationship between farming practices and our health. We are learning to consider not only the foods we eat, but also where and how the food is raised. Incrementally, we are making changes. We want a healthy future for our families and yours.

Our experience has shown that by allowing our livestock to graze on pasture as much as possible, and using holistic approaches, our farmland is enriched and the quantity and the quality of the food has increased.

At Pure Valley Farms we invite you to join us on our journey, to experience delicious tasting nutrient-dense meat and to enjoy the health benefits of holistically raised food at your table. Feel good about eating meat raised this way, the positive impact it has on the environment and your health!
